Introducing the 2011 SAG’s and new Spring/Summer Trends

The 2011 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards came on last night and many trends for the new upcoming spring/summer season were introduced.  Looking at the stunning women walk the red carpet last night and looking at what they wore and the designers who created the fab looks; it looks like it promises to be a very fun, flirty, and fashionable summer.  Heavy hitter designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Versace, Alexander McQueen, YSL, Carolina Herrera, and Prada made stunning gowns for stars such as Winona Ryder, Hilary Swank, Mila Kunis, and January Jones.

Trends that were seen on the red carpet of the SAG’s covered all fashion categories including color, patterns, and silhouettes.  Here are the major trends that swept the carpet.

COLOR

Blush Tones- Blush tones are a beautiful subtle color that is perfect for the spring and summer months.  A color that is not overwhelming, and light and airy to keep you cool throughout the season.

Red’s- This stunning vibrant show stopping color is sure to turn heads this season.  Usually a color seen during fall and winter months, designers have taken this color and incorporated it into spring/summer looks.

White- A color many people are afraid to wear, yet a color that is so beautiful when worn correctly. White with added diamond embellishments, or even bright bold statement colors becomes a perfect summer look.

PATTERNS-  A big trend this upcoming season are gorgeous unique patterns.  Stars Mila Kunis and Hailee Steinfeld wore stunning patterned dresses on the carpet last night.  Whether the pattern is bold and playful, or sexy and vibrant; a pattern is definitely something to consider wearing for the upcoming season.

SILHOUTTES- Two silhouettes that were vastly seen on the SAG red carpet last night were plunging v-necks, and short sleeve gowns.  These are two unique silhouettes because everyone cannot pull off a plunging v-neck gown or even a short sleeve gown.  Stars January Jones pulled off a short sleeved gown impeccably as well as also incorporating the patterned trend.  Eva Longoria and Lea Michele showed off they’re va va voom in stunning plunging pieces.

The New Eyelash Frenzy!!

So the new trend nowadays are definitely eyelashes; long beautiful, stop traffic eyelashes.  They’re such a bold beautiful natural statement on the face that instantly sets people apart from one another.  People that are blessed with naturally long beautiful batting lashes are lets face it, simply stunning!  The problem with that is the jealously factor definitely comes into play with those who weren’t as lucky to be blessed with such a stunning facial statement.  Here’s the good news; its 2011, there are definitely concepts, ideas, treatments and procedures that can quickly help you get your eyelashes to your desired length.  And here’s even better news; everyone is doing it! Its like hair extensions everyone has them.

I just read an article in the NY Post about eyelash innovations and I must say I was stunned about how many methods of treatment and procedures there are.  From eyelash extensions, procedures that help them grow, and just plain mascara.  There are even spas and salons devoted to just eyelash treatment and extensions.  Here are a few methods to help you decide which method best suits you.

1. LashDip- a semi permanent mascara that promises to thicken your lashes for up to six weeks!  The procedure takes one hour and costs around $250.  It promises to be safe and painless.  It also eliminates part of your facial makeup process while getting ready.

2. Eyelash Extensions- I’m sure everyone has heard of this.  The procedure can be done now at almost any salon or spa and can cost anywhere up to $400.  The procedure is painful, simple, fast and easy.  The extensions are not permanent and do require maintenance more so than the LashDip procedure.

3. Mascara- An essential in everyone’s makeup bag or kit.  It is the finishing touch on the lashes that sets them off for a great overall look.  There are now new mascaras to add volume to the lashes, add height, thickness, and now even help them grow.  A mascara made by Rimmel London called Rimmel Lash Accelerator is a mascara that promises to grow eyelashes in 30 days.  My younger sister uses this mascara and I’ve seen the results; it really works!

RED! So Bold, So Vibrant, So Hard to Wear!!

Lets face it, everyone once in awhile loves a red lip but  it’s not something that should be worn everyday.  When you want to achieve a subtle yet powerful head turning statement, that tube of red lipstick will become the perfect go to piece.

No tube of red lipstick is identical to another.  Each shade, brand, and finish makes the red lip unique.  Just as no person is exactly the same, neither is a shade of red; the trick is to choose the one that works best for you.  Here are a few tips:

“The essential first step is identifying the texture you feel most comfortable wearing (a gloss or tinted balm are great training wheels) and then finding the ideal hue for your coloring.” – Poppy King owner of Lipstick Queen

“The most flattering lip tones will be one or two shades darker than your natural lip color” – Bobbi Brown makeup artist.

“When it comes to foundation you want it to match, but for lipstick, the idea is for it to contrast with your skin and hair color” – Poppy King owner of Lipstick Queen.

   - Women with fair skin, look great in lipstick shades such as nudes in a slightly apricot shade, pinks and light corals. Stay away from browns, which will appear blah.

   -  Those with a medium skin tone can go a bit darker. You’ll look great in roses, mauve’s and berries. Skip the bright reds and consider a deep burgundy instead.

   – Deep plum, chocolate or red is fabulous with dark or black skin. According to the editors of Allure’s “Confessions of a Beauty Editor,” women with dark skin “can go in one of two directions: toward brown or purple. Think caramel or walnut for day, and plum or wine for evening.”

The Globes went Simple and Green!

Did anyone see last night’s Golden Globes?  I wont lie I didn’t watch the entire event but I never miss the stars debut on the red carpet.  Even if you did miss it don’t worry, I’ll catch you up here.  Stars both male and female that got voted best dressed were those who stuck to stunning simplicity this time around.  Jade turned out to be the hottest female red carpet trend this year and for the guys, simple, stunning, and dapper black tuxedos were the show stoppers.  Although simplicity was all the rage, what set everyone apart from best and worst dressed were accessories and accents.  Swarovski Crystal’s were the accents seen on many of the green red carpet gowns worn by Angelina Jolie, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Top designers for the night were Lhuillier, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, and Versace.  For the men the main staple accessory of choice were ties and bow ties.  A Crimson bow tie worn by True Blood star Ryan Kwanten was in my opinion one of the male show stoppers of the night.  Men’s designers for the night included Hugo Boss, Burberry Tux, Tom Ford, Ferragamo, and Calvin Klein.

2011 Resort Wear Trends

As the snow falls and we’re in the midst of the winter season, there are those who will refuse the snow and have a change in scenery.  These lucky people will be going tropical to destinations such as St. Barts and St. Trope.  For their luxurious trip their attire will consist of 2011 resort wear.  This season’s resort wear trends are unlike any other and designers this season have pushed the limits,  the designs are classic, long and beachy.  Trends this season consist of subtle printed light weight maxi dresses, long flowing printed skirts, straw hats, and the “IT” hat called the aplomb.  Inspiration strongly came from fashion icon Talitha Getty and colors consist of pale pastels and neutrals.  Top designers that made a huge splash during the 2011 resort shows include Marc Jacobs, Pucci, Chanel, Michael Kors, Lanvin, Balenciaga, and Oscar De La Renta.
