What the outfits of today's
hottest couples say about their relationship
It's hard enough dressing for one, but when you're a duo
in the Hollywood spotlight, your couple style reveals a lot
about how you get along on and off the red carpet. Here's
how four of the hottest A-list pairs rate, and what their
ensembles expose.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony
She's more covered up than we're used to seeing her, which
proves that she has stopped craving the shock factor for
which she was once famous. Jennifer seems secure in her marriage
and she's showing him respect by not trying to steal the
show. His white shirt and white tie ensemble adds a touch
of glamour, while the sleek lines of his tux match her elegant,
yet traditional vibe. Her olive gown is still a slightly
daring color choice, but her jewelry and overall look is
not expressive enough for who she is.
The Nest Verdict: We're
not looking for Jenny from the Block, but we miss the fashion
risks she used to take. And we have to wonder, why a subdued
JLo? Has she grown into a mature married -- or is her DH
[Darling Husband] asking her to put her personal style
on mute?
Real Couple Advice: Even as you grow older and more comfortable
in your relationship, don't lose that edginess you had when
you first met. Or you'll risk losing yourself.
Reese Witherspoon
and Ryan Phillippe
Although Reese is dressing way too old for her 29 years,
her classic style and muted color choice support the couple's
modest partnership. She might be an Oscar winner and rake
in $29 million for one picture, but her understated vintage
frock complements Ryan's sharp, yet standard tux and lets
her audience know that he is an equal player in their marriage.
Unfortunately, they make their marriage look a little boring.
The
Nest Verdict: As wonderful as equality is, we would have
loved to see them both in more youthful and glamorous garb.
She could have worn something just as elegant, but with more
color and sex appeal. They might have two kids, but there
was no need for her to look so matronly.
Real Couple Advice: While a vintage look might sound
hip, just make sure it doesn't make you look like you're
from decades past. Consider wearing vintage jewels with a
more modern look.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith
This pair used to live by the mantra "the couple who
dresses together stays together," but that all changed
on Oscar night. Normally, Will would have donned a splash
of Jada's royal blue gown, like a matching necktie, pocket
square, or pin. But his pinstripe tux was missing that touch
of complementary uniqueness the Smiths always have. Perhaps,
they've grown so comfortable in their marriage that they
realize they no longer need matching ensembles to confirm
their power couple status.
The Nest Verdict: They looked wonderful,
but we fear they've lost the bold, fun attitude they had
toward fashion. While we have to wonder what caused them
to be less unified, we applaud their more classic appearance.
Real Couple Advice: Just because you're known for one style
doesn't mean you can't try another. In fact, toning down
your look might create more attention than sticking to
your standard flair.
