Our Picks for Spring Trends 2014

Once warmer weather hits we are all ready for a wardrobe refresh. The bitter cold in New York City has us daydreaming of crisp whites, sheer tops and bare legs. Here are some of the tops trends for Spring 2014 that will have you wishing for warmer weather as well.

1- Metallics — Whether it’s gold, silver, bronze or even metallic blue, shiny fabrics in luxe metal colors will shine bright when the sun comes out. Add a small accent like a cute metallic clutch or go all out for nighttime with something like this Saint Laurent metallic moto jacket. The key word here is: GLAM.

2- Pleated Skirts — Last year it was the skater skirt, now the pleated skirt is having its year. This classic school girl look can go sophisticated when worn in longer lengths. Try one with a button down shirt for work or a tee and cropped motorcycle jacket for a more trendy look. This jaquard skirt from See by Chloe is crisp and clean.

3- Sheers — They’ve been here for years and they aren’t going away any time soon. Sheer fabrics are super sexy for spring and also very versatile. You can go all out and show lots of skin like this look from the Jason Wu 2014 Spring runway, or add an elegant touch with sheer sleeves on or tee or the hem of a skirt.

4 – Cross Continental — Tribal influences popped up all over the runways and we think summer is the perfect time to wear them. This sheer Anna Sui kimono layers perfectly over a simple tee or tank and will keep you slightly warmer when its breezy. Try it with a pair of gladiator sandals to really get an ethnic look.

5- Painterly Prints — Release the artist within, even if you aren’t artistic. Brushstrokes and great works of art showed up on fabrics for spring and we love the artistic edge of this Maria Grachvogel dress. Perfect for an art opening or cocktail hour, wear it with strappy heels and an interesting clutch.

6- Oxfords — Menswear is often a popular fall/winter trend, but for spring designers took mens shirting and made is modern for the woman. Cropped and stylized button down shirts were feminine and sophisticated. Versatile and perfect for the working woman, try something like this T by Alexander Wang oxford shirt with slacks for work and shorts for the weekend.

7 – All White — Ethereal and angelic, many runway shows had women clad head to toe in white. Can you make it through the day without spilling? We would certainly try if it meant we got to look as chic as the looks shown at Band of Outsiders.

8- Athletica — Don’t play sports? Either do we, but we still love the athletic chic looks that designers put out. Try out the trend with just a simple baseball cap like this one from Acne Studios, or go all out in a full ensemble. We love this jumpsuit from Topshop. One thing that’s for sure is that this is classic Americana.

9- Cropped Up– Another trend that has been around and is certainly here to stay is the crop top. This look is a little risque and definitely not office appropriate. Go casual with a cropped tee and high-waisted shorts on the weekend, or go super sexy a la Kim Kardashian with a cropped shirt and high-waited midi skirt– we love this neoprene top from Zara. The key to keeping it chic is not showing too much skin, so make sure you are covering up with a high-waisted bottom.

Justin Bieber Needs to Lay Low

Stunt after stunt has been getting teen pop idol Justin Bieber in trouble. His latest? Getting arrested for driving under the influence with an expired license. This is just one of many legal problems the 19-year-old superstar has had over the past few years. Once a squeaky clean young idol, Bieber is now beginning to spin out of control like many other young celebrities with fame and fortune.

Experts are weighing in on what Bieber’s next step in life should be. Celebrity image consultant for New York Image Consultant Amanda Sanders advises “If he was my client, I’d tell him to lay low — dial down the going out, the entourage, the bling. Maybe try to speak to children about drunk driving. Just lie low until the dust settles, then come back with a fresh look … and perspective.”

Not bad advice! Read up on Bieber’s other offenses and see what else Amanda has to say in this article from Today. If you know somebody who has deteriorated their image and is need of a makeover, check out our services here and contact us.
